Jerry Sanders

Graveside services honoring the life of Jerry Alvin Sanders, 58,were held May 26 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Pleasant Hill with the Rev. Joe Farrister officiating. Jerry was born on August 29, 1957 in Converse, to Fred and Corrine Smith Sanders and passed away on May 22, 2016 in Denham Springs. Preceding Jerry in death were his parents, Fred Sanders, Sr. and Corrine Sanders Blankenship and stepson Patrick “Tommy” Broadway. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughters, Angel Sanders Covington of Denham Springs, Robin Sanders and DJ Shoalmire of Denham Springs; brothers, Fred Sanders, Jr.

Joyce Smith

Graveside services honoring the life of Joyce Smith, 99, were held May 25 at Toro Cemetery in Florien with the Rev. Johnny Dunn officiating. Lola Joyce Arthur, born January 26, 1917 in Florien. Her parents were Benjamin Clinton Arthur and Elizabeth Tynes Arthur. She was a member of Toro Baptist Church and Union Baptist Church when young. After graduating from Florien High School she attended Charity Hospital School of Nursing until interrupted by World War II. She went to Alabama and worked in defense industry in the production of military equipment so the men could go to war.

Heather Sepulvado

Funeral services honoring the life of Heather Mignon Rutherford Sepulvado, 39, were held May 30 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Zwolle with Father Timothy Hurd officiating. Burial followed at St. Ann’s in Ebarb Heather was born on October 15, 1976 in Shreveport to Ray Rodney Rutherford and Debbie P. Rutherford and passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Willis-Knighton North in Shreveport with her family by her side. She fought an inspirational and courageous battle with cancer until the end.

Hershell Freeman

Funeral services for Hershell Lynn Freeman, 63, of Shreveport were held May 18 at Rockett- Nettles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William Hall officiating. Interment followed in Lambertown Cemetery in Robeline. Mr. Freeman was born April 26, 1953 in Jonesboro and passed away May 15, 2016. In his earlier years, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to be who cared more for others than for himself. He also loved the Lord with all his heart. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Charles H. Freeman; brothers, Charles Roy Freeman and Gary Wayne Freeman and one sister, Joy Ann Johns. He is survived by his daughter, Kristy Marie Freeman of Shreveport; son, Michael Shane Freeman of Pineland, Texas; grandchildren, Christopher Aaron Hopkins, Katelynn Danielle Hopkins, Karagan Lee Hopkins and Alexander Gage Freeman; mother, Jean G.

Susan Chance

Susan R. Chance was born September 26, 1954, in New Brunswick, New Jersey and woke up in the arms of Jesus on May 19, 2016. Funeral services were held May 23 at Prewitt’s Chapel Baptist Church with the Reverends Hoy Leach, Nick Hilton and Dean Crittenden officiating. Burial followed in the Prewitt Chapel Cemetery. Susan resided in Hornbeck and was a dedicated homemaker. In Susan’s later years, she loved nothing more than to spoil her grandchildren and spend her days crafting.

Mary Malmay

Funeral services for Mary S. Malmay, 107, of Zwolle, were held May 20 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Tim Hurd officiating. Burial followed in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Mary S. Malmay was born on Thursday, June 4, 1908 in Sabine Parish. She passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 in Keithville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmitt Malmay, Sr.; parents, Phillip Sepulvado and Patricia Basco Sepulvado; sons: E. B. Malmay and Jim Malmay; daughter, Elaine Derrick; grandsons, Larry Malmay and Danny Domingue; sons-in-law, Dallas Dominigue and Huey Derrick and daughter-in-law, Theresa Malmay. She is survived by her sons, Jerry Malmay and wife, Ginger, of Zwolle, and Emmitt Malmay, Jr.

Roma Clarice Boggs was born on Sunday, October 10, 1937 in Vernon Parish. She passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Life Care Hospital in Shreveport. Angela Bean

Funeral services for Angela Renee Bean, 49, of Anacoco were held May 11, at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville, with Thomas Craig and the Rev. Richard LaCour officiating. Burial followed in the Mitchell Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville. Renee, the daughter of Cletus Don and Audrey LaNell Withers McInnis, was born on August 6, 1966, in Zwolle. She passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016, at her residence in Anacoco. Renee worked for the Fort Polk Fire Department from 2003 through 2011. She was a volunteer fire fighter for the Anacoco Fire Department. She loved hunting, fishing, her family and faithful sidekick, her dog “Gracie.” She always put others first. According to her family, “She was a force to be reckoned with.” She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Bruce Bean of Anacoco; son, R. T.
