Jacqueline Kay Salter Blackmon (Jackie)

Jacqueline Kay Salter Blackmon was born on July 27, 1947, in Gladewater, Texas to James Kile and Mary Jo Salter. She was the first girl born into the Salter family in almost a hundred years. On Friday evening, February 2, 2024, she succumbed to complications related to Lewy Body Dementia. Jackie was 76 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Dean Blackmon, her father and mother, James Kile and Mary Jo Salter, two brothers, Jimmy Salter and Dana Joe Salter. She is survived by a brother John Lewis and his wife Kathy of College Station, Tx. and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was known by several names, Jackie, Sis, Aunt Sis, Momma Jack and a couple that cannot be printed for public review. Sis grew up in the “suburbs” of Florien, Louisiana in the Antioch community. As a youngster, she took piano lessons and became an accomplished pianist.

She graduated from Florien High School in May 1965 with her life-long friend Ouida Bush Leach and her high school sweetheart Carl Dean Blackmon. She attended Northwestern State College and worked as “Floral Assistant” at Miss Mary Duggan’s Flower Shop in Many. Sis had a special gift of making floral arrangements. She made beautiful table arrangements for her nephew Chad Lewis’ wedding reception.

Jackie worked at Ft Polk until she married, the love of her life, Carl Dean Blackmon in July 1969. They lived in Houston, TX. until Carl Dean passed away in July 2017. They did not have children but were adoring parents to Timmie and Tommy (Friench Poodles) Rosie (a Yellow Lab) and Maggie (a Bichon Frise). Without question, they were very lucky canines.

Sis grew up in the Baptist church and made a profession of faith in her early childhood. However, Carl Dean and Sis became actively involved in the Brethren Church in Houston. Carl Dean became an elder and Sis was the church pianist.

Pat McCormic promised his cousin, Carl Dean, that he would take care of Jackie if something were to happen to him. Shortly after Carl Dean’s death, Pat conducted a diligent and comprehensive search for a first class assisted living facility to accommodate Jackie’s needs. Sis was relocated to an assisted living facility in Shreveport, LA. It quickly became apparent that she had some concerning medical issues. Unfortunately, they stemmed from a diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia (LBD). LBD is a debilitating disease and Jackie’s health continued to deteriorate. Again, Pat and his wife Diane searched for a quality, trusted memory living facility. They found the Auberge Memory Living Center in Cedar Park, TX. The care, compassionate, and support provided by Pat McCormic, and his wife Diane is a wonderful example of Promises Made Promises Kept. They literally and untiringly attended Jackie’s needs to her very last breath. They were and are angels.

Final arrangements include a viewing from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on February 8, 2024, at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many, LA. A chapel service, officiated by Br. Wayne Chance, will begin at 11:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by internment at the Florien Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kile Lewis, Chad Lewis, John Sandel, Carl Lee Chance, Troy Thaxton, and Billy Ochiltree. Honorary pallbearers will be Pat McCormic and wife Diane, Candy McCormic, Dedra Blackmon, Erica Moore, Jessica Salter Dixon, DJ Salter, Larry Ray Salter, Ouida Bush Leach, and Glenda Mosley A donation to your favorite charity in memory of Jacqueline Kay Salter Blackmon is encouraged.
