Sherman Lewing, Sr.

Funeral services for Sherman Lewing, Sr. 94, of Florien, were held on August 1, 2019 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Price officiating. Burial followed at Florien Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents Sam C. Lewing and Edna Leola (Manasco) Lewing; wife, Nell Lewing; brothers, Ray Lewing and Herbert Lewing; sisters, Bonnie Smith and Elizabeth Ann Lewing.

He is survived by his son Sherman Lewing Jr. and wife Catherine of Florien; sisters, Myra Anthony of Many, Lola Jean Williams of Florien, and Shirley Kinney of Chillicothe, Ohio; granddaughter, Shawnee Sedberry and husband Ron of Clifton, Texas; grandsons, Private Tristan Alen Molina of Ft. Huachuca, Arizona and Private Spencer Allen Molina of Ft. Eustis, Virginia; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Sherman Lewing, Sr. was born into this world Friday, May 22, 1925, son of Samuel C. Lewing and Edna Leola Manasco from Fisher.

William “Butch” Ryan

Funeral services honoring the life of Butch Ryan, were held August 3 at Union Springs Baptist Church with the Reverend Jimmy Price and the Reverend Chucky Clark officiating. Burial followed at Union Springs Cemetery in Converse.

Butch was born June 22, 1941 in Florence, Mississippi to Bree Ryan Sr. and Clinton Webb Ryan and entered into rest on July 31, 2019.

Butch spent most of his time outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a retired tugboat captain. Butch was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. To know Butch was to love Butch.

He is preceded in death by his parents Bree and Clinton Ryan Sr.; brother, Bree Ryan Jr.; sister, Jeanette Ryan Pritchard and a son Bubba Ryan.

Freeman Ottis “Skip” Hardin, Jr.

Funeral services for Freeman Hardin, Jr., 71, of Florien were held on August 6, at Cenchrea Nazarene Church with the Reverend James Philen and Rev. John Lewing II officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Florien.

He was born on Monday, April 5, 1948 in Many, and passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at his home in Florien.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Freeman Otttis Hardin, Sr. and Sybil Smith Hardin; and father-in-law, M.A. McComic.

Walter Fitzenreiter Jr.

Funeral services for Walter Leo Fitzenreiter Jr., 93, of Hornbeck, were held July 27 at the Hornbeck United Methodist Church with the Reverends Daniel Na and Wayne Chance officiating. Burial followed in the Prewitt’s Chapel Cemetery in Hornbeck, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville.

Walter was born on July 13, 1926 to Walter Leo Fitzenreiter Sr. and Ernestine Louisa Perkins Fitzenreiter. Leo died in his sleep at home early Tuesday morning, July 23, 2019 after a battle with cancer.

He was a 1943 graduate of Reeves High School. Leo served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. After returning home, he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University. Leo and his wife Mavis celebrated 65 years of marriage in October 2018.

Alice Ezernack

Funeral services honoring the life of Alice Mary Ezernack were held July 19 at St. Ann Catholic Church with Father Richard Norsworthy officiating. Burial followed at the Old Zwolle Cemetery in Zwolle.

Alice was born November 25, 1933 in Ebarb to Eugene Ebarb and Lydia Procell Ebarb and entered into rest on July 17, 2019 in Many.

Preceding Mrs. Ezernack in death were her parents, Eugene and Lydia Ebarb; father of her children, Hobart Laroux; husband, John Ezernack; sons, Darryl G “Dottie” Laroux and Infant Hobart Laroux Jr.; and sisters, Melva G. “Skin” Ebarb and Josie Ebarb.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her sons, Kenneth “Chooch” Laroux and wife Kathy of Converse, Barry “Bob” Laroux and wife Suzette of Many, Frank “Tank” Laroux and wife Laura of Bossier City, and Gary “Pye” Laroux of Zwolle; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Freddie Nash

Funeral services for Freddie Lavell Nash, 78, of Belmont, were held July 27 at Pendleton Assembly of God with the Rev. Daniel Davis officiating. Burial followed in the Bayou Scie Cemetery.

He was born on Sunday, September 1, 1940 in Many, and passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 in Shreveport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Olcie R. Nash and Orelia ALeane McGaha Nash; daughters, Loretta Dowden and Becky McLendon; and sisters, Melba Nash and Bobbie Turner.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Nash of Belmont; daughters, Cheryl Sepulvado and husband Randy of Zwolle, and DaJuana Simpson and husband Joey of Belmont; step-sons, Mike Byles and wife Cindy of Many, and Eddie Byles and wife Lisa of Florien; sonsin-law, Ronnie Dowden of Zwolle, and Keith McLendon of Many; sisters, Francis Eaves of Belmont, Mary Farmer of Belmont, and Lenora Sepulvado of Belmont; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews and friends.

Robert Dickerson

A funeral service celebrating the life of Robert Lee Dickerson, 77 of Benton, was held July 12 at New Freedom Fellowship Church with the Rev. Dean Hillman officiating. Interment followed in New Freedom Fellowship Cemetery.

Robert was born on December 31, 1941 in Shreveport to Arthur and Lena Dickerson, and passed away July 10, 2019 in Bossier City.

During his life, Mr. Dickerson worked numerous maintenance jobs at various businesses in and around the Toledo Bend Lake area. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed what he did for employment.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lena Dickerson; and brothers, Leroy, Don, and Glen Dickerson.

Sidney Houston Jacobs II

Sidney Jacobs II passed away on Sunday following a nearly two-year battle with cancer. He was 49 years old. His last days were a celebration of his life, and he died surrounded by his family, friends, and loved ones.

Sidney was born in Converse and graduated from Pleasant Hill High School. At the time of his passing, Sidney lived in Alpine, Texas with his wife of 19 years, Alicia Fernbaugh and his daughter, Ruby. Following his passing, many friends reminisced about Sidney’s quick wit, his warm hugs, and his way of speaking up for those who needed his voice. Sidney was many things in his life. He was a true and loyal friend, a doting husband and father, a writer, a racecar driver, and a sometimes musician, but Sidney asked to be remembered for the 16 years he spent working in law enforcement in Louisiana.

Bobby Joe Rush

Funeral services for Bobby Joe Rush, 65, of Many were held July 18 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Matt Warren officiating. Burial followed in the Bethsadia Cemetery.

He was born on Sunday, May 30, 1954 in Kountze, Texas, and passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019 in Shreveport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertis Henry Rush and Alice Leah Gentry Rush; son, Tommy Joe Rush; and one brother and one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Barbra Rush of Many; son, Michael Rush of Natchitoches; daughter, Bobbie Stewart of West Monroe; sisters, Mary Williams of Winnfield, Connie Reed of Winnfield, Susan Woods of Forney, Texas, and Betsy Andrus of Springhill; brothers, Bertis Ray Rush of Campti, Johnny Earl Rush of Millington, Tennessee and Keith Rush of Pineville; grandchildren, Avery Elizabeth Heard, Jaylon Paul Stewart and Kaden Gabriel Rush; along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Delores Lewing

Delores “DeLo” Lewing was born December 4, 1935 and passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on July 13, 2019.

Services celebrating her full and joyous life will be held on July 20 at 2 p.m. at Alford Heights Baptist Church in Many with burial at Old Pisgah Cemetery following the service. Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. immediately prior to the service.

DeLo was born and raised in Belmont where she became known for her skill on the basketball court at Belmont High School. She later married Wayne Lewing and moved to Fisher where they raised their two daughters, Diane and Kim. DeLo was a kind and steadfast daughter, mother, sister, wife, grandmother, and a friend to all. If you made it out to her house, you could count on a full meal waiting on you, most of which would be lovingly fried, with a side of tea almost as sweet as her. DeLo was a faithful member of Alford Heights Baptist Church, and she loved spending time with her friends in the women’s group.
